8th November 2009Howgill Fells
After some very wet weather, finally a dry day was forecast, so I headed over to the Howgills to explore the south western corner. My route took me over Castley Knotts, Brown Moor, Fell Head, Bush Howe, The Calf, Calders, Arant Haw and back past the Lune Viaduct.

Dunmail Raise, Lake District - CUHWC
I joined CUHWC for two very wet walks from the Achille Ratti Hut at Dunmail Raise. On Saturday I did Seat Sandal, Fairfield, Great Rigg and Stone Arthur in cloud. Sunday's walk over Helm Crag, Gibson Knott, Calf Crag and Steel Fell was my wettist for quite a long time!
29th October 2009Hayeswater Horseshoe, Lake District
Sheila joined me for a walk over half term to practise navigational techniques for her ML. We were very fortunate (considering the weather for the rest of the week) to have chosen a dry, clear day for the walk!

Bredon's Norton
I went down to my grandad's house in Bredon's Norton for a few days to help with the final clearout. We enjoyed a walk down to the river and up Bredon Hill in sunshine.

Peak District - CUHWC
I spent the weekend with David in Derby. We did a walk over The Roaches and Gun on Saturday before joining CUHWC on Sunday for the annual Freshers' trip to Edale. This year I did the north edge of Kinder Scout for the first time.
11th October 2009Ward's Stone, Forest of Bowland
Sarah joined me for a walk in the Forest of Bowland. We headed up to Ward's Stone, the highest point of the area. It wasn't as boggy as I had expected!

North York Moors
I joined David for a weekend in the North York Moors, staying at the Youth Hostel in Osmotherley. The high points of Saturday were Roseberry Topping and Gisborough Moor On Sunday we enjoyed a section of the Cleveland Way in brght sunshine from Swainby to Ingleby Greenhow.

Olivia came to visit for the remainder of the weekend and we enjoyed a relaxing potter up Arnside Knott and back round the coast before visiting Sizergh Castle

Malham, Yorkshire Dales - D of E Weekend
I spent two days supervising the Bronze assessed expedition in the Malham area. The weather was overcast on Friday, but we enjoyed bright blue skies on Saturday.
20th September 2009Lune Valley Cycle Ride
I fancied a change from walking so headed out on my bike to explore a new area. My route went through Nether Kellet, Gressingham, Aughton, Caton, Lancaster, Morecambe and Hest Bank. An extremely varied ride with views towards the Three Peaks, Forest of Bowland, River Lune, seaside and the distant Lake District.
12th September 2009Ennerdale Horseshoe, Lake District
After a wet summer, finally a sunny day was forecast so I got up early (4.15!) to drive round to Ennerdale to do the complete high-level circuit. The weather was fantastic giving good views in every direction. I was pleased to complete the 38km and 2600m ascent in 10 hours 45 minutes. An excellent day out!

Lake District - Alison's visit
Alison visited for four days of bagging, taking advantage of the Bank Holiday. Alison completed a book a day - Far Easterns on Friday, Westerns on Saturday, Easterns on Sunday and Northerns on Monday (of which no photos due to the strong wind and heavy rain!)

I headed to Langdale to do Pike o'Blisco, Crinkle Crags, Bow Fell, Esk Pike, Rossett Pike, Pike of Stickle and Loft Crag - a lovely day for it, but my camera batteries ran out early on!

Edinburgh (2)
I went up to Edinburgh for dinner with Alex, Ausma, DC, Mary, Peter, Lottie and Will. We had an excellent dinner on Wednesday night before enjoying a leisurely potter round Edinburgh on Thursday morning.

I set off early expecting the early morning mist to burn off...but it didn't. A good walk but only the odd glimpse of the view through the cloud!

Switzerland - Saas Grund
I returned to Switzerland for some more Alpine walking. The weather was excellent for the first week before a big thunderstorm and low cloud for the last few days. I enjoyed walks up several of the 3000m peaks in the area.

Kinlochleven, Scotland
I joined Michael for four days of Munro-bagging around Kinlochleven. We did Buachaille Etive Mor and Beag on Monday, the Eastern 7 Mamores on Tuesday, the remaining 3 Western Mamores on Wednesday and Beinn a'Bheithir on Thursday. The weather was changeable but the views weren't too bad.

Berwyn Hills, Wales
On my return from Cornwall, I stopped in Wales to explore a new area, the Berwyns near Llangollen. We avoided the worst of the weather, visiting Castell Dinas Bran on Friday evening and walking on Cadair Berwyn and Cadair Bronwen on Saturday.

During my visit home, we went for a day walk on Dartmoor. The weather was showery but we managed to explore some new squares of the Dartmoor 365 around Vixen Tor and King's Tor.

Peak District
I visited David for the weekend on the way home to Cornwall. We walked on Shutlingsloe, Shining Tor and Tegg's Nose on Saturday and had a short walk from Quarndon on Sunday morning.
